-
Heel pain can have several causes. The most common is plantar fasciitis, but pain may also arise from Achilles tendon problems, heel spurs, nerve irritation, joint-related issues, stress reactions, or inflammatory conditions. An accurate diagnosis is essential to guide effective treatment.
-
Yes. As part of our one-stop, diagnosis-led approach, point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound is routinely used during heel pain assessments. Ultrasound allows us to accurately identify the underlying cause of your symptoms, rather than relying on assumptions.
It helps us assess:
Plantar fascia thickness and structural changes
Partial or full-thickness tears
Achilles tendon involvement
Soft-tissue inflammation or degeneration
Other pathology that may mimic plantar fasciitis
This level of diagnostic accuracy enables us to confirm the diagnosis, grade severity, and select the most appropriate treatment, whether that is rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, injections, orthotics, or other targeted interventions.
-
Your appointment includes a thorough assessment, which may involve:
Detailed history and physical examination
Footwear and shoe size assessment
Gait and pressure analysis
Diagnostic ultrasound where indicated
Based on findings, we will explain the diagnosis and recommend a tailored treatment plan.
-
Yes. Shockwave therapy is one of several evidence-based treatments we offer and may be recommended for chronic heel pain when appropriate. It is not suitable for everyone, and its use is guided by diagnosis and response to previous treatment.
-
Yes. We offer a range of injection therapies, including corticosteroid injections, prolotherapy, hyaluronic acid injections, and biological agents such as Traumeel®/Zeel®. Injections are used selectively and only when clinically indicated, often under ultrasound guidance for accuracy.
-
Not all patients require orthotics. When biomechanical factors contribute to heel pain, custom 3D orthotics may be recommended to support the foot, redistribute pressure, and reduce strain. This decision is based on assessment findings.
-
Recovery time varies depending on the underlying cause, severity, and adherence to treatment. Many patients notice improvement within weeks, while others with long-standing symptoms may require a more structured treatment programme.
-
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, but not the only one. Treating all heel pain as plantar fasciitis can delay recovery. Our diagnosis-led approach ensures treatment is targeted to the correct cause.
-
No referral is required. You can book directly with our clinic. If needed, we can provide written reports and communicate with your GP following your appointment.
-
Yes. Many patients attend after trying previous treatments without success. Our one-stop approach allows us to reassess the diagnosis and offer alternative evidence-based options under one roof.
